Finding Women in the History of Harrisville

These stories of the “Women of Harrisville” were first collected for an exhibit in the Harrisville General Store in honor of Women’s History Month in March of 2025. Additional stories were added to expand the original exhibit into a presentation for the April 2025 Annual Meeting of Historic Harrisville Inc. that was held on April 13th, 2025. The presentation included an Introduction and Stories from The History of Dublin New Hampshire by Michelle Aldridge; the story of Women Town Officers by Select Board Member Kathy Scott; the story of Harrisville’s Women Teachers by Harrisville Wells School Teacher Roshan Swope;  the story of a young woman millworker, Jennie S. Weston, told through Jennie’s letters read by Rebecca DeFusca; the story of Dr. Lillian Mahoney of Aldworth Manor told by one of the current owners of Aldworth Manor Tammy Long; and the story of influential entrepreneur Chloe White told by Michelle Aldridge. We hope to continue to add to the stories of the Women of Harrisville. Please reach out if you have stories to share or women you think we should add to our collection. hharchivekaty@gmail.com
