Abel Twitchell House,1774Next>>![]() This house, the only 18th-century structure still standing, was the home of the first settler in Harrisville village and overlooked the grist and sawmill that he built next to Goose Brook. The early settlement was, in fact, known as "Twitchel's Mills." It is a wood-framed, 2 ½-story center-chimney dwelling set into the side of the hill. The façade is essentially Georgian in style, slightly asymmetrical, and has undergone changes over time. Original windows and front entry were replaced with "updates" consistent with later architectural styles. Owned by Historic Harrisville, Inc. |
